Use A Rent Reporting Service

How To Save Your Equifax Credit Report As A PDF

There are several companies that will report rent payments on your behalf. Monthly fees vary between services, and some charge an initial enrollment fee to get started. In some cases, your landlord may have to verify your rent payments for them to be included in your credit report. Note that even when rent payments are included in your credit report, they may not be included in your credit score calculation.

Write To The Company That Supplied The Information

You should also write directly to the creditor or other company that supplied the information you believe to be inaccurate. Your letter to that company should contain the same information set forth in your letter to the credit bureau. Your letter should ask the company to fix the inaccuracy in its own records, in the records of any collection agency to which it referred any alleged debt, and with the credit bureau.

Contact Your Mortgage Lender And Ask If They Report To Experian

If your mortgage account does not appear on your credit report, the first thing you should do is contact your mortgage company and ask them if they report to Experian. If your lender confirms that they do report to Experian, you can request that they contact their Experian representative for help in determining why the account is not appearing in your report. Ask them to review the identifying information on the account to ensure that the account is being reported under the correct name and Social Security number.

You also can contact Experian and explain the situation so that it can be researched. You can reach Experian by phone at 888-EXPERIAN, or by mail at:

Experian P.O. Box 9701 Allen, TX 75013

Simply explain that you have an account that’s not appearing on your report and that the lender has verified it is in fact being reported. Be sure to include your complete identification number, including your Social Security number, so that Experian can locate your credit information.

Unfortunately, if your lender does not report, you won’t be able to have your account added. When you apply for credit in the future, ask the lender if they report account history to one or more of the national credit reporting companies. If they don’t, you might consider applying elsewhere to ensure your positive account payments help you build a strong credit history.

The statement of your dispute must then be included in any future credit reports distributed by the credit bureau. You may also request the credit bureau to send your statement of dispute to each creditor that requested your credit report in the last six months.

Dispute Your Credit Reports Errors

Credit Scores & Reports : How to Read Credit Reports

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, both the credit reporting bureau and the company that reports the information about you to the credit bureau are required to accept disputes from consumers and correct any inaccurate or incomplete information about you in that report.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission recommends taking these actions:

  • Tell the credit bureau, in writing, what information you think is inaccurate. The Federal Trade Commission provides a sample dispute letter that makes this step easier. The letter outlines what information to include, from presenting the facts to requesting that the error be removed or corrected.
  • Include copies, not originals, of materials that support your position.
  • Consider enclosing a copy of your credit report with the errors circled or highlighted.
  • Send your letter by certified mail with return receipt requested to ensure the letter is delivered. Keep your post office receipt.
  • Keep copies of everything you send.

Order a copy of your credit report from both Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada. Each credit bureau may have different information about how you have used credit in the past. Ordering your own credit report has no effect on your credit score.

Equifax Canada refers to your credit report as credit file disclosure.

TransUnion Canada refers to your credit report as consumer disclosure.

How To Dispute Errors On Your Business Credit Reports

Its not at all uncommon to find errors in your business credit report, which once again highlights the importance of vigilantly monitoring your credit.

Errors should be dealt with immediately, as an artificially low score could jeopardize your eligibility for future loans or other financing options.

When you notice an irregularity in your credit report, your first step should be to compare it with a report from another agency. If your score differs remarkably from one bureau to another, it raises the probability that the error lies with a particular bureau, not with your business.

When this happens, contact the bureau directly. In many cases, the error arises from combining data from two different companies. In other cases, you may need to dispute specific payments or transactions.

If it is an error, the problem can usually be fixed right away, though it may take several weeks or months before the error completely disappears from your credit reports.

Dun & Bradstreets CreditBuilder Plus membership option provides a streamlined approach, letting clients dispute their scores directly through the subscription service.

Its also worth remembering that your business credit score isnt private. Anyone willing to pay the fee can have access to your credit score and that could impact your relationship with other businesses or suppliers.

How Credit Reports And Credit Scores Are Affected By Inaccuracies

While it might not seem like a big deal at first, even a single error can cause a lot of problems for your credit report. If left uncorrected, it can even lead to a significant drop in your credit score .

Once your is between 300 600 its considered to be poor. With poor credit, it can be difficult to get approved for large amounts of credit, favourable term conditions and low interest rates, since lenders might think its because you havent paid your debts in the past. Plus, it can take a lot of time and effort to get your score back to the good range .

All this to say, if you do find some kind of inaccuracy on your credit report, its extremely important to resolve the situation as fast as you can. Although there are relatively fast and easy ways of doing this, the longer the error goes uncorrected, the worse your credit and approval chances will be.

A lender will use your credit score to determine if they will lend you money and how much interest they will charge you to borrow it. Your credit score is a number calculated from the information in your credit report. It shows the risk you represent to a lender compared to other consumers.

Knowing your credit score before a major purchase, such as a car or a home, may help you to negotiate lower interest rates.

You usually need to pay a fee when you order your credit score online from the two credit bureaus.

Some companies offer to provide your credit score for free. Others may ask you to sign up for a paid service to see your score.

Make sure you do your research before providing a company with your information. Carefully read the terms of use and privacy policy to know how your personal information will be used and stored. For example, find out if your information will be sold to a third party. This could result in you receiving unexpected offers for products and services. Fraudsters may also offer free credit scores in an attempt to get you to share your personal and financial information.
